And another amazing goal (video)

We’re on a roll with the great goals. Check out this one, scored at the weekend by Berkhamsted player Josh Chamberlain in the FA Vase. Again the goalkeeper won’t be too happy about this one.

Watch it here!

Award of Brazil penalty widely criticised.

Brazil had a relatively easy ride in the end last night, but the reaction to the penalty that was awarded worldwide was one of ‘was that a penalty’? NFred seemed to slip rather than be fouled, so the home nation certainly had the rub of the green last night.

Mind you, the Croatian goal keeper has cause to look back to say that he could have made a couple of saves at least, including the penalty.

Judge the penalty awarded for yourself.

Gareth Bale wins the Spanish cup for Real Madrid (video)

So maybe he was worth £80-odd million after all to real Madrid. Bale scored the decider in the final of the Spanish cup last night against Barcelona. The goal came 5 minutes before the end of the match to take the cup back to Madrid with a 2-1 victory. It was a bad-tempered affair on the whole with plenty of incidents. There is not a lot of love lost between these teams.

Watch the deciding goal here:

Manchester derby goals.

It was a bad day for the home team. It started with the fastest goal ever scored by a visiting team at Old Trafford. United barely touched the ball, and it didn’t improve from there/

City now lie second, 3 points behind leaders Chelsea, but with 2 games in hand.
Manchester utd v manchester city 0-3

Bayern Munich are Bundesliga champions

Bayern Munich were crowned champions of Germany for a 24th time with a record seven games to spare after victory at Hertha Berlin. Thy are 25 (!) points ahead of second placed Borussia Dortmund.

Midfielder Toni Kroos set them on their way, finishing from 14 yards after Thomas Muller’s cross.

Mario Gotze made it 2-0 with a header from Bastian Schweinsteiger’s cross, before Adrian Ramos’s penalty reduced the deficit.

But Franck Ribery’s lob sparked wild celebrations among Bayern’s fans.

Guardiola has enjoyed many momentous moments during his managerial career, particularly with Barcelona but he will feel this is one of the highlights.

The German team can now turn their full attention to the Champions League, where they meet Manchester United in the quarter finals.

Sunderland reach the Capital One Cup final

Manchest Utd v Sunderland

The Red’s 2 Davids (Moyes and de Gea) will not have had a good night. De Gea made a huge blunder to let Sunderland back into the game. Hernandez spared him blushes by scoring late in extra time to set up a penalty shootout.

And what a penalty shootout that turned out to be. And not in a good way. Only 3 out of 10 penalties were converted.

Gus Poyet and his Sunderland team were very happy of course, and David Moyes looked once again dejected, wondering when the tide is going to turn.

Sunderland will now meet Manchester City in the final.

Gareth’s free tip of the day: Paul Lambert Could Play A Weakened Side

FA Cup – Back Sheffield United in the Asian handicap +1 at evens or Sheffield United at 7/1 to win

Aston Villa V Sheffield United, Sat, kick off 3pm

Those looking for an upset might consider the game between Sheffield United and Aston Villa. The Midlanders have been awful at home and have only scored seven in their ten games at Villa Park, and only three in their last six. Paul Lambert is on record as saying he ‘could do without’ the FA Cup as he strives to avoid another battle against relegation. He must be tempted to play a weakened side and if he does Sheffield United have a real chance as Villa have a small and inexperienced squad and very little strength in depth. The Blades had a bad start to their League One campaign but their 2-1 loss at Walsall last time out was their first defeat in nine games. I’m not sure Villa should be ½ to beat anyone given that they have a such a weak midfield which is unable to keep possession of the ball. Villa do have recent form of losing to lower division teams in the cups and in Sheffield, who can be backed at 7/1 to win in 90 minutes, they are playing as team that’s fourth in the League One form table. The home crowd is understandably turning against Villa and Lambert and could do again if they are struggling after 20 minutes; and that looks quite likely.
