Pick Of The Day: Preview Of Tonight’s Carling Cup Tie – Exeter vs Liverpool

24/08/2011 Leave a comment

Exeter vs. Liverpool

The second round of the Carling Cup is underway and it’s important that Liverpool get off to a good start and win this game despite the level of opposition respectively. Around this time last year Liverpool were embarrassedly knocked out by League Two opposition Northampton so let’s hope lightening doesn’t strike twice for Liverpool.

Kenny Dalglish has said some players will be rested for tonight’s game which is good for the squad. But I expect to see more experienced players rather than untried youngsters to be featured in the match.  Having said that there are rumors suggesting 16 year old Raheem Sterling may be involved in the match or at least on the bench which is great as he is a special emerging talent and someone who is already exciting Liverpool fans with his great trickery and wing play for the youth and reserve teams. I hope he takes part in the game and make a similar impact like a certain 16 year old did all those years back in the name of Wayne Rooney.

Let’s hope this match is played in traditional cup fashion with high flying tackles and goals galore but I’m not expecting the underdogs to win as I feel Liverpool will be taking this match very seriously and making sure that there’s no repeat of last year’s humiliating exit.

My Prediction

Liverpool WIN

Exeter 0 – 3 Liverpool

Goal Scorers: Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool), Maxi Rodriguez (Liverpool) & Raul Meireles (Liverpool)

Preview Of Tonight’s Champions League Qualifier 2nd Leg – Udinese vs Arsenal

24/08/2011 Leave a comment

Udinese vs. Arsenal

Tonight is a very important match for Arsenal and quite frankly it would be a disaster if Arsenal were to be knocked out of the Champions League as it would affect the club financially but more importantly it would damage the club’s credentials for the season and result to a negative atmosphere within the club and fan base. Furthermore it could hamper any possible transfer deals, depending on the caliber of player, this summer as Champions League football is a necessity for many top players and quality replacements for Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri have to be made very soon.

Arsene Wenger is under huge pressure this season with some fans even suggesting that his time at Arsenal has come to an end and could even be sacked if Arsenal fail to qualify but I disagree as I believe he is one of the best managers around and sooner than later he will turn it around for the club like he has in previous years. So its important Arsenal fans stay positive and stick by their manager.

It’s never easy to win against an Italian opposition on home soil as the atmosphere in stadiums tends to be quite taunting with passionate fans roaring in full effect. Arsenal currently have a long list of first team players on the treatment table which could dent to their chances of progressing but I still think they have enough quality to cause damage on Udinese tonight so I’m going for an away win.

My Prediction

Arsenal WIN

Udinese 0 – 1 Arsenal

Goal Scorer – Robin van Persie
