FOOTBALL TRANSFERS ROUNDUP

15/07/2015 Leave a comment

It is time again to do regular updates form the circus that is the transfer window. The day after 20-year old Sterling moved from Liverpool to Manchester City in a record £49m deal (a Draheem come true as The Sun put it), we bring you the ‘news’ from the sports pages about any other deals that may be coming soon.
Here is our pick:

For a list of all the latest deals, check out the transfers page.
Liverpool remain keen on Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, 24, but are still refusing to pay the £32m asking price despite selling 20-year-old forward Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for £49m on Tuesday. Perhaps they have learned from the Andy Carroll episode.

Manchester United are ready to sell winger Angel Di Maria to Paris St-Germain for £42.8m. The Red Devils spent £59.7m on the 27-year-old last summer. Big losses for them then!

But other papers suggest that United are also interested in a swap deal that would see Di Maria go to PSG with 28-year-old forward Edinson Cavani moving to Old Trafford.

Manchester City and Liverpool are both interested in signing 18-year-old Fulham forward Patrick Roberts. The Championship club want £10m for the teenager.

Chelsea are confident of beating both Arsenal and Liverpool to the signing of Barcelona forward Pedro after meeting a £22m release fee in the 27-year-old’s contract.

Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, 27, is prepared to go on strike (!) to force a move to Manchester United. The Spanish side value the Argentina defender at £37m.

Arsenal have made a £10m bid for Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, with the 24-year-old being lined up to challenge Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal at left-back.

Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell could be leaving Arsenal for good, with former Manchester United boss David Moyes ready to spend £6m to take the 23-year-old to Real Sociedad.

Southampton are close to replacing Morgan Schneiderlin, who has joined Manchester United, with 24-year-old Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie. The Netherlands international will cost £12m.

Leicester believe new manager Claudio Ranieri will convince out-of-contract midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, 34, to agree a new deal with the club. The pair worked together when Ranieri was in charge of Inter Milan in 2011-12.

Robert Lewandowski’s agent has told Manchester United it will cost them more than £35m to sign the 26-year-old Bayern Munich striker this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed reports linking midfielder Mesut Ozil, 26, with a move away from the Gunners.

New Aston Villa assistant Ray Wilkins has advised midfielder Jack Grealish to “live like a monk” to fulfil his potential after the 19-year-old was disciplined last month when pictures appeared to show him passed out in the street in Tenerife.

Championship sides Burnley and Cardiff are both considering moves for Wigan’s Wales international midfielder Emyr Huws, 21.

Sunderland have failed in an attempt to sign Zenit St Petersburg defender Nicolas Lombaerts, 30. The clubs had agreed a £5m fee but the Black Cats could not agree personal terms with the player.

Midfielder Tom Cleverley, 25, hopes his move from Manchester United to Everton will help restart his England career. Cleverley last won a cap in November 2013.

Cleverley’s 24-year-old Toffees team-mate and fellow midfielder James McCarthy is a target for Manchester City after they missed out on Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph.

West Brom are close to signing goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, 28, from Crystal Palace in a £3.5m deal.

Everton vs. Liverpool

What a great way to start your Saturday afternoon! A feisty encounter between two great rivals with the assurance of witnessing an atmosphere that would rival the Gladiator Arena along with some hard crunching tackles and maybe a couple handbags flying around for good measure.

Liverpool have been in decent form with a good performance last week against Wolves with Andy Carroll showing glimpses on why Liverpool spent a fortune in bringing him to Anfield. Everton on the other hand suffered a big defeat last week against high flying Man City but they have shown good promise this season despite their off field troubles.

It’s never easy to predict a result for derby games but I’ll be going for a Liverpool win with Andy Carroll scoring a thunderous header.

My Prediction

Liverpool WIN

Everton 0 – 1 Liverpool

Goal Scorer – Andy Carroll

Aston Villa vs. Wigan

We are entering week 7 of the Premier League and Aston Villa still remain unbeaten despite the fact that they’ve claimed more draws than wins. But this should be taken as a positive and hopefully press on the claim their second win of the season.

Wiganhave been very inconsistent so far this season as you’re never quite sure what to expect from them which is worrying for Roberto Martinez.

I expect a home win as Aston Villa have been in better form and I think home advantage will play a part.

My Prediciton

Aston Villa WIN

Aston Villa 1 – 0 Wigan

Goal Scorer – Charles N’Zogbia

Blackburn vs. Man City

There’s a lot of speculation surrounding theBlackburnmanager after a disappointing results last week against Newcatle and fans have been protesting in recent weeks for his dismissal. So the pressure is mounting for immediate results and time may be running out for Steve Kean.

ManCityhave been in every newspaper this week regarding the infamous incident of Carlos Tevez refusing to play which has got the football world buzzing. He has gone on to deny that he refused to play but it’s clear from the footage that it’s not the case. I strongly feel that there’s no place for this behaviour in football as it’s a team sport and no player is bigger than a club. But it remains to be seen how the situation is dealt with by the hierarchy of the club. Now back to the footballManCitywere unlucky to lose against Bayern Munich in midweek as they performed well but it’s a learning curve as the Champions League is a different ball game. Their premiership has been fantastic and I expect it to continue into this game.

I’ll be going for an away win withManCityclaiming three points comfortably. But don’t expect to see Carlos Tevez anytime soon, not even on the bench!

My Prediction

Man City WIN

Blackburn1 -3 Man City

Goal Scorers – Formica (Blackburn), Mario Balotelli (Man City), Sergio Aguero (Man City) and Edin Dzeko (Man City)

Man United vs. Norwich

Despite a great run of form in recent weeks Man United were very disappointing againstBaselin midweek and its safe to say that they underestimated their opponents. But I expect a better performance in this fixture with the return of Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Johnny Evans in the squad which is good news.

Norwich claimed a great victory this past Monday against Sunderland and I feel their home form will be crucial in deciding their fate in their Premiership. Any points against the top six in away fixtures will be a bonus.

I have to go for a home win as I can only see this fixture being one sided.

My Prediction

Man United WIN

Man United 4 – 0Norwich

Goal Scorers – Javier Hernandez (Man United), Danny Welbeck (Man United), Wayne Rooney (Man United) and Ashely Young (Man United)

Sunderland vs. West Brom

Both teams have had very inconsistent campaigns and need to improve their performance levels if they are to climb up the table. Sunderland suffered a surprise defeat in the hands ofNorwichon Monday and there’s more off field problems with Titus Bramble being suspended due to this arrest of convicted charges. But this is an important fixture and hopefully the team can focus and produce a win.

West Brom have been improving steadily with a good point last week against Fulham but I still have my reservations as I feel they’re defense is weak and have been exposed this season.

Despite their off field problems I’m going for a home win and expect Sunderland to be more ruthless in front of goal.

My Prediction

Sunderland WIN

Sunderland 3 – 0 West Brom

Goal Scorer – Nicklas Bendtner (Sunderland), Sessegnon (Sunderland) and Gardner (Sunderland)

Wolves vs. Newacstle

Wolves have not been in great form losing their last three games despite a good start to the season. But this will be a difficult fixture asNewcastlehave been in great form and still remain unbeaten in the league. Plus the return of Ben Arfa has given the team a major boost with his creativity and influence.

I will be going for an away win as I feelNewcastleare too strong for Wolves.

My Prediciton

Newcastle WIN

Wolves 0 – 2 Newcastle

Goal Scorers – Cabaye (Newcastle) and Demba Ba (Newcastle)

Bolton vs. Chelsea

Bolton have been in terrible form losing five consecutive matches and things have gone from bad to worse with the news that Midfielder Stuart Holden is out for six months due to knee injury.

A visit from Chelsea is not what Bolton need right now as Chelsea have been in good form playing with great fluidity and confidence (apart from Fernando Torres obviously).

I’m expecting a comfortableChelseawin.

My Prediciton

ChelseaWIN

Bolton 0 – 2 Chelsea

Goal Scorers – Didier Drogba (Chelsea) and Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

Fulham vs. QPR

We have another derby match this weekend with twoWest Londonclubs going head to head for the first time in over 20years. Fulham are entering the match after a good win in the Europa League and QPR have enjoyed a good run of games since the start of the month.

I’m expecting an entertaining game with QPR claiming all three points.

My Prediciton

QPR WIN

Fulham 1 – 2 QPR

Goal Scorers – Andrew Johnson (Fulham), Jay Bothroud (QPR) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (QPR)

Swansea vs. Stoke

This will be an interesting match as we have two teams who play totally different style of football.Swanseaare known for playing quick attacking football whereas Stoke are known for their defensive and physical approach to games. The outcome will be very intriguing for the neutrals.

I believe this match will end in a draw which would be a good point for Swansea.

My Prediction

DRAW

Swansea1 – 1 Stoke

Goal Scorers – Leroy Lita (Swansea) and Peter Crouch (Stoke)

Tottenham vs. Arsenal

This will be the final edition of the derby games this weekend and I’m sure this will be fiery encounter. Both clubs will want to win especially Arsenal who are currently lingering at the bottom half of the table. Harry Redknapp will revert to his normal lineup after resting his players in midweek and Arsene Wenger will be hopeful to bring in some players who missed out against Olympiakos in the Champions League.

I believe Tottenham will end victorious but I’m expecting an entertaining game full of sots mounting on goal.

My Prediciton

Tottenham WIN

Tottenham 2 – 1 Arsenal

Goal Scorers – Emmanuel Adebayor (Tottenham), Jermiane Defoe (Tottenham) and Robin van Persie (Arsenal)
